Ten Ways to Turn Your Child’s Chore Time into Fun Time
You want your child’s bedroom closet cleaned up because it looks like
something an alien would live in. Of course they hate the “cleaning up”
idea. Have your child arrange all the clothes in the closet by color - like
a rainbow. They learn about the rainbow, how to match colors and you get to
weed out things that don’t fit any longer.
Tired of the pencils, crayons, markers and other debris all over your
house. Fed up with all the boxes your kids have left in a heap on the
floor. Build a playhouse. Doesn’t have to be fancy, but you can get wildly
creative. Decorate the outside of the box with crayons, markers, or glue and
bits of fabric. That gets everything off the floor and gives your kids a fun
place to play. Hint: nice day outside? Have the kids do their building
outside on the back lawn and have a picnic.
Sick of picking the toys up every day? Donate old toys and games to a
local shelter or charity. Let your child pick the games and toys. Tell them
where the things are going and other kids will get a chance to play with
them.
Need help in the garden but your child isn’t interested in helping pull
weeds. Have them collect flowers and anything else that catches their fancy,
then scrapbook with your child to showcase their treasures.
Fed up with trying to figure out how to get your child to pick up his
clothes? Try a guessing game. Have him guess how many socks he can pick up
fast. Help him a bit. If he does it in a certain amount of time, he wins.
Wins what? That’s the fun part!
Is your child messy with his crafts? Won’t pick things up after he’s
done? Let him make special cards or pictures with the materials. Make it a
game. Just watch those craft materials vanish and your space get tidier. In
the process, you’re going to have a blast.
